As a black male that listens to kanyes music..im sorry but im still trippin off of kanye.. this fool coulda spoke his mind sumwhere else. Out of all the times he coulda spoke his mind..THIS FOOL chose a white award show to do so?. I bet he wouldn't have done it on BET awards. He really... made hisself look stupid last night. Sum black ppl may agree to what he did.. but to every other race he provin everything right about the stereotype of black people..and thats potraying ignorance

I'm sorry but you should really learn how to use correct grammar, it would make you sound a lot more intelligent.

an apology takes place when a wrong is done... a wrong was done and an apology was said...let it go...I believe both of the parties involved lives will be affected way more than any of your spectators...it was a mtv award show...it wasnt congress or anything...oooops did i say that...

I was outraged at what Kanye did. My opinion has nothing to do with anyones race. But after watching that interview with Jay Leno I can see his pain he is dealing with. I almost wanted to cry. He seems really upset and I believe that he does need to take sometime off. Its when celebrities get so low and so full of pain that we lose them and they lose themselves. So I just want to say that I totally forgive Kanye and hope that he can find center and peace in the near future and hope him continued success.....

First off I think the issue was blown out of proportion, but its doesn't change the fact that Kanye acted immaturely and disrespected an artist who is barely and adult. That said, as an African American male I was enormously embarrassed for him as soon as he did it. And as you can see, after the alcohol dissipated and the lights turned off, Kanye is still clearly tormented by his mother's death.

The good that may come of this is Kanye uses this saga to re-evaluate his life and emerge a better man.

The MTV Music Awards is hardly a white awards show...Its an awards show for everybody who makes music, not just white people...I guess you've never tuned in??? And this could never happen at BET, cuz Taylor Swift would never be at the BET awards, THAT award show is race specific...

What Kanye West did to that little girl last night was PATHETIC! I believe the only reason he apologized is because everyone let him know just how gross his behavior was. The only thing he is really sorry about is that his popularity took a plunge. This is not the first time this total douche bag has made an utter fool over himself in this manner. Kanye acts as if he some kind of "KING" or "GURU" over pop music. Well HE IS NOT!!!! Also his personal style is not "groundbreaking" either!!!!! I wore the same stupid trends 20 some yrs ago. My excuse for looking so ridiculous is that I was 15 and that it was ACTUALLY the 80's. .....what is yours Kanye? So I will say it again over and over.....KANYE WEST is a PATHETIC DOUCHE BAG...KANYE WEST is a PATHETIC DOUCHE BAG!

As a black person ANON #1 is ridiculous. Sure race becomes an issue because of the situation but what I hate most is how discussion of the issue devolves into attacks and such.

Kanye screwed up and admitted it. Its obvious he has issues and I hope for his sake he deals with it.

WTF Allison... have you watched the vid... did you see kanye's facial expression when Jay asked wat his mother wud think... And if he was so concerned with his popularity he wudnt have done it in the first place.

Kanye's style is "groundbreaking" in some sense and that is in that he can bring back a style from 20 years ago and make it fresh. Im sure no one gives a fck wat u wear lol.

Anonymous 1 Kanye reinforced nothing other than the fact that alcohol and an inflated ego are not a good combination at an awards show. The person who would look at Kanye’s actions as a representation of the entire Black race is not your friend and never will be so get over it.

"THIS FOOL chose a white award show to do so?. I bet he wouldn't have done it on BET awards."

a) "White award show"? Want to explain to me how that comment isn't extremely racist?

b) MTV and BET are both owned by Viacom, a public company that trades on the NYSE under VNV and VIAB. This company is owned by thousands of people, many of whom are black. They employ well over 10,000 people, many of whom are black. Hell, even a member of their BoD is black.

Nobody cares what you think "as a black male", people want to hear your opinion as a human being. Although, to be honest, that opinion looks pretty stupid.

Allison, if you signed up for Blogger just to post that comment, that's pretty pathetic as well.

Just sayin'.

What Kanye did was very wrong. I dont care how you look at it and try to justify it. He apologized to save his career, and becausehis publicist most likely told him to. He can say tha he was hurt or whatever but just cause you are hurt, no mater how bad it may be, you dont ruin someone elses moment in the spotlight, especially a 19 year old girl who did not do anything to him to begin with. She won an award that he deserved,he voters voted and she won, f you dont think she should of won than sit there with your mouth shut and don ruin her moment. This is not the first of his little outbursts and im sure not the last.

Anonymous said...

Look, he ruined her moment in the spot light. It was not the first time he hs had little outbursts and i sure not the last. If he was drunk than maybe he should learn to hold his liquor. If he was hurt because of his mothers death then i dont think the way to cope with that is to ruin someone elses moment of glory. She did nothing to him. The voters voted and she won, she deserved it. He needed to save his career so he apologized. It has nothing to do with race, being black does not make him ignorant. He is just an ignorant person who cares only for himself.

First I think to stereo type this into a racist thing is pretty shallow as a human being. Calling MTV a white awards show isn't necessarily truthful nor is it politically correct. Kanye (of whom everyone has probably heard of at some point) is human. As humans we all make mistakes. As a white guy I can forgive him for going off half cocked and being ignorant. What matters now is that he sticks to his guns and sorts his life out to keep it on track.

So my thought is the man made a mistake sink or swim it's on his head and no matter how everyone in this thread has judged him it is not our place to judge him.(now if I don't throw this next statement in I will be ridiculed for being of Faith) so no I am not Christian.. nor Catholic or any other religion .. I am an Atheist.

Sink or Swim he admitted he was wrong and to do that on national television takes a lot of guts.. to then apologize for a mistake he made on national television on a talk show such as Leno's that is syndicated to hundred of countries around the globe is out standing.

He messed up as a man... and as a man he apologized... so lets leave him be as a confused man that needs to take a break and sort stuff out. OH LOOK 3 PARAGRAPHS AND NEVER ONCE DID I BRING RACIAL SLURS ATTACKS OF ETHNICITY OR PROFANITY INTO THIS!

first off THANK YOU for posting this, took forever to find it

second - a friend wrote this & I agree I don't excuse his behavior but I understand the source. no, this isn't the first time he's had an outburst but i didnt see this as kanye's ego controlling his mouth again - he was drinking a bottle of henny on the red carpet - snoop i could see doing that but ye? come on, dude is broken and needs to sit down and grieve, which is basically what he said to leno - I just hope he truly does...he is obviously & understandably still broken - he isn't a criminal, a drug dealer, a woman abuser or anything like that. He had a ridiculous ego & this has probably knocked that down several notches, lets pray for him - seriously. He probably feels terrible in addition to thinking about his mom & as for Taylor this gave her career a wonderful boost so pray that he learns from this gets better & does better. Squash the negative & Pray that something positive comes as a result. www.hiphoptruth.com

I'm a huge Green Day fan. And they won best rock video, which they should have, they're fucking Green Day. Basically the definition of what a rock band should be. When it comes to pop, Beyonce is that. The definition of what pop should be. So her losing to Taylor is like Green Day losing to Paramore. Kanye reacted just how a passionate music fan should react. Certainly the wrong time and place. But if Paramore were to go up and accept the award for best rock video, if I was there they'd have to hold me back.

I agree with the last comment - he had a lil' too much, got passionate & got stupid. He didn't break any laws or anything, Beyonce (very classy) gave Taylor an EVEN BIGGER shining moment as a result, Taylor is now a household name, he apologized, he still has a lot of grief and NOW GUILT + zero popularity to boot - who really came out hurt here?? pray that the guy works himself out & does something to help himself and the many others that he is in a great position to.

Before you comment - choose to you yourself contribute something positive to the world. www.hiphoptruth.com

Taylor will not need anything from you in the future Kanye. Your apology was not even real, like you claim to be. You didn't even say sorry. Kanye, you are more concerned of what people think of you right now than what you did to Taylor. Just face it, you're a dick-always will be. I'm sure next year, you'll rant about something else. Have another Hennessey you fuckwod!

Kanye West is a human being and we all make mistakes... he knows he did wrong and he needs to be forgiven.. who are we to judge... Taylor Swift is a very mature, intelligent young woman of God and Iam sure that she has already forgiven him...Please let him go on with his life and do what he does best.. his music.. he will make it right with her he is a good man you can tell he has a good heart. Sometimes celebrities get stuck on stupid...only a few know how to handle this thing called fame... we need to show love and compation towards him. Lesa Reynolds

The pain of dealing with someone's death does not justify blatantly hurting anyone. It's not like she just died yesterday. I don't believe his mother's death had anything to do with this. He has already has a big head, alcohol + a big head = "i think i can say whatever the f I want everyone is gonna love me even more" - didn't work this time.

I understand pain, but I've never knowingly and purposefully hurt someone because of my pain. Had this been the first time Mr. West had done something like this I might be willing to believe he was truely sorry, but the past speaks for itself. I think Mr. West is an egomaniac who needs to learn manners and humility. I don't believe race has anything to do with the backlash he has created for himself, a jerk is a jerk... no matter what color the skin.

FCK YOU KANYE!!!!!!

How can you ask somebody in public about what your passed away mother would think ? Now THAT is rude and not helping at all.

Anonymous said...

I think it was probably a weird publicity stunt.

"How can you ask somebody in public about what your passed away mother would think ? Now THAT is rude and not helping at all."

That was probably the most introspective, significant question he could have asked. It's probably the first time EVER that West was speechless. It was the EXACTLY what West needed to hear. Leno did him a big favor.

Jay Leno is absolutely the best interviewer on the planet. He brought the point home, exposed Kanye for what he is, and gracefully let Kanye out from under the tremendous pressure that he was under. Kanye was tongue tied... that is a first.

Anonymous said...

Let it go and move on? An apology is sincere if it's the first or second offense but Kanye is notorious for these kinds of stunts. He deserves no leniency.

VMA is a white award show? You're really an idiot...

I agree this is not a race issue. It's obvious to me Kanye is in a terrible place in his life. I truly believe he is still in shock over the traumatic and untimely loss of his mother. He is not handling that in a healthy way obviously. Also, based on past behavior it seems he may have some mental issues that need to be addressed. From his narcissism, to his manic outbursts he is obviously out of control. I am so sad for him. It seems we forget this is how these celebrities as well as normal people start out abusiing substances. We have lost so many to addiction and self destructive behavior. Hopefully he has someone close that will intervene before this gets any worse.
As for his apology I believe it was heartfelt and sincere. He was wrong and he admits it. Like others have said this is a huge boost to Taylor Swift. Her publicist couldn't buy this amount of publicity. That being said she was disrespected and it was even more disheartening because she is so young. She handled herself well though.
Kudos to Beyonce. Allowing Taylor her 'moment'was classy and very considerate.
In the end we should all remember there have been times we've all done something we're not proud of, even if it was'nt broadcast on national tv. I for one am not going to be casting any stones at Kanye but prefer to pray for him to heal and find some peace since he is obviously tormented and in pain.
Lastly Jay Leno pulled a slimy stunt asking him repeatedly what his mother would think. He was trying to provoke an emotional outburst simply to boost his ratings. Kanye made a mistake and is paying for it, Taylor was victimized but Jay Leno is worse than the rest of the media for digging in the raw open wound of that young man's pain over losing his mom which really has nothing to do with the situation period.

I am really amazed at how agitated and angry people are about this. Yes he was rude, obnoxious and way out of line...but it's not like he slapped her. I saw a congressman disrespect our president, the leader of the free world, actually personally attacking him as well as his integrity by calling him a liar. The public reacted to it but never did I hear f*** that congressman or that his career is over. Did Pink come out and threaten to kick that congressman's a**? How many celebrities twittered about that? What's up with that?

Please pardon me for not being black; I really do not see the relevance race has to do with it. He acted very abrasive, rude, and as if he had no upbringing. I assume from everyone’s reaction that this is out of character for him, this is unfortunate. When Dennis Rodman performed his outlandish stunts it was accepted as his norm. While I am aware of the demographic audience of BET I was unaware the MTV was for white people or that this was a white award show. If this is so then why were Kanye West and Beyonce there to begin with? Did they not see the Whites Only sign? From the previous post no child left behind is working wonders for our country, he makes hisself sound so eloquent, and why is he adding black pupils, papule, pupelo, peplum? I get it now people, those extra letters must cost quite a bit not to type them, he must be typing on a blacks only keyboard that does not have the full compliment of keys. A black male, why does he insist on sounding like a species under study? A man is a man, all of our bones look the same, and we all take the same treatment for injuries and sickness, some refuse to treat their terminal ignorance and that is a pity as we are in a country where it is illegal to remove your self from education until the age 18.
